Rhodia Pads.

I just bought some fresh Rhodia pads for my new classes, which start tomorrow. They are my absolute favorite notepads. I first discovered them when I saw my father's lying around the house many years ago. I was instantly attracted to the bright orange cover and the simplicity of the black letters stamped right in the middle. Plus they come from France, which certainly adds to the allure. I have used them ever since.

King Tut.

Steve Martin's King Tut song from his SNL Days never fails to make me laugh and is surprisingly catchy.

Currently reading...

My newest book is The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. I haven't started reading it yet but it's about Oscar, an apparent overweight "lovesick ghetto nerd" who is enthralled with fantasy fiction and has hopes of becoming a Dominican J.R.R. Tolkien. Oscar's inability to obtain what he desires can be blamed on the multi-generational family curse that has haunted his family from the Dominican Republic all the way to the United States. It just won the Pulitzer Prize and has received excellent reviews. The cover design is quite nice. I hope to start reading it later today.

James Jean Sketchbooks.

My drawing teacher told us to look at James Jean's sketchbooks because of his excellent use of negative space. His sketchbooks are filled with images he has drawn while out & about and are complete with little stories. They are quite amazing and I particularly like how he captures two expressions in one face. Check out more of his work.

Santogold

I am loving her album right now and the song she does with Julian Casablancas and N.E.R.D., My Drive Thru, is fantastic.
