Juliette and I went to see Phoenix at the Hollywood Bowl and they did not disappoint. Definitely the best concert I have been to in a long long time. Grizzly Bear opened for them and sang a magical Two Week with Feist.
Vampire Weekend finally released their new CD Contra this past Tuesday. I have been listening to them since their Mansard Roof EP days when their lighthearted bops softened up my cold dark days in Boston. It seems with this album they have finally hit the mainstream. Where as my sister describes them as being just a little too precious, I still find myself enjoying their preppy cute music and the images evoked of boat shoes, plaids and dapper bowties. My favorite song from Contra is Run.
I was first introduced to the amazing M. Ward through his collaborative project with Zooey Deschanel, She And Him. I have been listening to a lot of his music lately and I just adore it. His new CD, Hold Time, comes out February 17.
I never actually saw the movie Old Joy but I was obsessed with watching the trailer because of the music. Yo La Tengo wrote it for the film but you could never actually buy it -- that is until now. I am so happy they finally put the soundtrack on CD. It has a rustic sort of folksy feel but there is something so serene and beautiful about it as well. I think I have those connotations partially because that is the feel of the trailer. I still really want to see the film.
