The Perfect Tote.

I just got two of these totes on sale from Gap. I am using one to hold stuff right now but the other is going to serve as my perfect lugging around tote. It is huge and not very stiff so it is great for carting around awkwardly shaped items. I plan on using it for all my art supplies.

Apple and pear by profound Italian designer Enzo Mari.

Mean Streets.

This scene from Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets is pure genius. The camera closes in on Harvey Keitel just as the Rolling Stones start. Then the camera flashes to Robert DeNiro, who just strolls right on it to the bar like he is the ultimate shit. So great. All slow montage scenes set to music wish they could be as amazing as this one. Though many of Wes Anderson's come awfully close.

Rhodia Pads.

I just bought some fresh Rhodia pads for my new classes, which start tomorrow. They are my absolute favorite notepads. I first discovered them when I saw my father's lying around the house many years ago. I was instantly attracted to the bright orange cover and the simplicity of the black letters stamped right in the middle. Plus they come from France, which certainly adds to the allure. I have used them ever since.

James Jean Sketchbooks.

My drawing teacher told us to look at James Jean's sketchbooks because of his excellent use of negative space. His sketchbooks are filled with images he has drawn while out & about and are complete with little stories. They are quite amazing and I particularly like how he captures two expressions in one face. Check out more of his work.

Behind the Scene

These photos are from behind the scene of the photo shoot below. They are so fantastic!!!

Kate Spade + Allan Dye

The moment I saw the Kate Spade ad collection entitled Bisbee in a magazine, I flipped out. I ripped out all the pages and saved them. I even put them on my dorm walls. Allan Dye was the creative director for this project. He also helped with this absolutely fantastic kate spade video thing called Blondie. I am so sad that I wasn't alive 45 years ago.

Muxtape.

My sister told me about this really awesome website where people can make their own playlists and listen to others. I love the whole aesthetic. Listen to mine

This is a great photoblog.

Vampire Weekend.

I am obsessed with the band Vampire Weekend. They have an amazing aesthetic and their new album is so fun!

Wendy Bevan

I love the photography of Wendy Bevan. Even though all her of her photos are contemporary, they tend to look like they have been sitting in someone's drawer since the 70's. Just the kind of feeling I like best.

I can't wait to see...

these two exhibits. I am just so ridiculously happy to be going home. I get so sentimental when it comes to California these days. I love going to LACMA and MOCA. I used to take art classes at LACMA when I was in first grade and I interned there last year. I used to always enjoy going to MOCA when I took jazz and drum lessons at the Colburn next door. Wow I was quite the renaissance girl. My oh my why did I ever leave LA? I am trying to convince myself that it is because if I didn't leave now then I never would. I plan on living there after school anyway. I am also going to hit up Chinatown, but not for salmonella turtles.

Lula.

Lula is the most amazing magazine. I am obsessed with its technicolored childlike photo spreads.

The New Beverly.

While I am on my LA high, I can't say enough how much I miss the New Beverly Cinema. They play the best double features and I love the dicey 70's porn theatre interior. Plus, they show the original trailers of all the films they plan on showing in the future, a nice touch indeed. I plan on attending many shows there upon my return.

Time Capsule 21

Andy Warhol would do this crazy thing where he would make time capsules of his life by putting all of this random stuff in cardobard boxes and tape them up when he felt it was finished. Many of these boxes were believed to just be random boxes of his stuff but they turned out to be dated and numbered. One of the boxes, #21, was made into an online website by the Warhol Museum. You can view the contents of the box and there is also random tidbits of information on why Warhol found it of interest.

Frick Beyers.

I am beyond obsessed with the photographer Frick Beyers. I love that he takes pictures of rundown, desolated places and the quality of light is amazing. Look at more of his photos at his website.

M + B.

The first place I am hitting up when I get back to LA (besides the Griffith Observatory) is the M + B gallery, which always has the best photo exhibitions, including my personal favorites Joseph Szabo and Hugh Holland.
